Blokes Club

Well, the very first meeting took place on 8th of February 2016, of our Blokes group. In spite of a small turn out, we formulated an effective plan that included all manner of ideas from the folks that did turn up.
These ranged from visits to various exhibitions and air displays to biking and sci-fi films to moto cross.

Now, it’s been some time since we let you good people know what the Blokes have been up to, so I’ll try to put that right this month (May 2017).
We’ve been all over the place, repeating a trip to Bletchley Park in March and then in April, on a rather bitter, raw day, we visited Langford Museum of Steam and, in the afternoon, dropping down to Stow Maries First World War Aerodrome. Both of these are well worth a visit especially on one of their “special” days.
Most recently, guided by the indomitable Roy Tricker, we undertook a Church Crawl (a bit like a pub crawl but with only one pub and three churches). Roy is a most engaging speaker and guide who explained the amazing history behind the churches at Badingham (lovely village shop and café nearby), Dennington (super lunch at The Dennington Queen which sits conveniently next to the church!!) and , finally, Badley which is amazingly remote but is still well attended and cared for.
All these on top of our monthly ‘planning meetings’ at the White Horse where Alison always makes us welcome.
Our next pub night will be on 15th June at the aforesaid ale house!
June’s outing is to Orford Ness on Tuesday 6th leaving the village green at 9.00 a.m. and reaching Orford by 10.00 a.m. It will include the ferry across to the Ness where we will be met by one of the rangers who will give us a guided tour (on a trailer!) of the area and where we’ll learn about the Ness’s mysterious use over the years. The tour lasts for three hours and will cost £20 per person. We’ll then return to Orford where we’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch in one of the local hostelries. We do need at least 12 people for this, so if you are interested please let me know asap.
Other future activities include, on Tuesday 18th July, a trip on the foot ferry to Harwich where we shall wander the streets searching out the history of the town and checking on the quality of their coffee shops and eateries!
We decided to leave August free of any planned trips as places of interest may be too busy during this month with the school holidays in full flow.
Then, in September, we will pay a visit by train to Bury St. Edmunds taking in The Green King Brewery and the Cathedral and any other points of interest. No date yet for this but watch this space or email me if you want to know more about our friendly group.
Phew! I feel quite worn out just thinking about it all.
Blokes is for any ‘bloke’ who has time on his hands and would like the chance to meet up, enjoy a pint and visit places that may be of interest to him (but not always ‘her’). So why not drop into the pub on 15th June or, if you’re interested in the trip to Orford, drop me an email or give me ring. Cheers!
